Due to the COVID-19 virus outbreak and pursuant to the Supreme Court of Alabama’s “Administrative Order Suspending All In-Person Court Proceedings for the Next Thirty Days” issued on March 13, 2020, the City of Calera’s Municipal Court is cancelling all in-person court dates from Monday, March 16, 2020 through Thursday, April 30, 2020, subject to the following exception below. This cancellation includes all court driving school classes.
The exception to this suspension of in-person court proceedings is limited to proceedings necessary to protect the constitutional rights of criminal defendants, including bond related matters and plea agreements for incarcerated individuals.
All individuals having a court date in the Municipal Court of Calera, Alabama during the period of time specified above, will receive a Notice from the Court with a new court date. This order does not affect the Court’s consideration of matters that can be resolved without in-person proceedings. Therefore, those individuals who are currently on a payment plan are encouraged to make their monthly payments by calling the city’s magistrates at (205) 668-3500. Additionally, as of now, all court proceedings currently scheduled for the month of May, 2020 and thereafter, will remain in place. Of course, depending on factors outside our control, these dates are subject to change and in that event the public will be notified of such.
