Services Provided

Since 1989, Middle Alabama Area Agency on Aging (M4A) has provided services to seniors and their caregivers in Blount, Chilton, Shelby, St Clair and Walker Counties.

Although known mostly for the Meals on Wheels program, M4A provides many other services designed to enhance the lives of seniors. All services are provided free of charge:

  • 1-800-AGE-LINE (800-243-5463) - information and referral access to all senior services through intake and assessment
  • Caregiver Support - help, support, services, and training for caregivers of seniors or grandparents caring for minor grandchildren
  • Home and Community Based Services - in-home services and case management to help the elderly and disabled stay in their homes
  • Insurance Counseling - counseling, advocacy, and information on Medicare, Medicaid, Part D, long-term care, and Medicare fraud
  • Legal Services - legal assistance with living wills, powers of attorney, advanced directives, defense of guardianships / conservatorships
  • Ombudsman Services - information and advocacy to residents of long-term facilities and their family members
  • Prescription Assistance - help with medications for those 55 and older and for the Social Security disabled of any age

Becoming a Senior Companion also provides tangible benefits:
  • Tax-free hourly stipend of $3.00 per hour, paid every two weeks
  • Travel reimbursement to cover the costs of travel
